Trion Military Grade Products

by Dave Bubb

Trion Inc, for a long time, has been known as the sole supplier of air cleaners to the U.S. Navy Submarine fleet.  The thing that sets Trion mist eliminators apart is that they are meticulously engineered and more heavy duty than other brands.  Reliable engineering and utilitarian focus carries over from military to Trion's commercial and industrial air cleaners.  Take, for example, the Trion electrostatic precipitator, a component of many oil mist eliminators.  No component is simply pulled from the shelf.  Conventional precipitators use ionizing wires, which eventually wear out and break.  Trion uses metal blades that last indefinitely.  Collection cells must be designed for easy removal for cleaning.  Tradition electrical contacts usually consist of a metal spring that sticks out of the side of the cell wall.  When the cell is slid into place inside the unit, the spring pushes against a contact plate inside the mist eliminator.  The spring sits in the middle of a plastic insulator.  With use, the springs can bend and break, with heavy loads, plastic insulation can melt, and with conductive substances, contamination can build up and bridge the gap across the insulators, shorting out the unit.  Unlike any other company, Trion addresses all these issues by using a spring loaded metal plunger (like the clicker at the end of a pen) instead of a bare spring, surrounded by the industry's largest ceramic insulators.  Contamination collection plates inside the cell are spaced further apart than any other manufacturer's, minimizing the chance for nuisance arching (the bug zap sound) as the blades load with contaminant thus prolonging product life.  By over-engineering and protecting every weak point, Trion produces trouble free and often maintenance free coolant mist eliminators designed to never quit.
