Centrally Ducted Mist Eliminators

A large mist eliminator can be used to collect mist from several machine centers.  Centrally ducted mist eliminators for industrial air pollution do not usually integrate into your HVAC, but rather use their own separate duct system, connecting directly to several contamination sources.  Blowerless air cleaning components are available for your HVAC, but compared to an independent, dedicated central ducted mist eliminator system, HVAC mist collection is inefficient and comparatively ineffective at removing heavy, industrial indoor air pollution from a production or machine tooling area. Multiple Source Capture or Direct Ducting to a Central Mist Eliminator

by Dave Kuck

Centrally ducted industrial air corrections equipment should only be used in the right situation.  If you are considering a central system just to lower initial cost...don't.  Even though you will save money by purchasing less equipment, there are many other factors to take into consideration, such as proper installation of the ductwork system.  Remember, even if the mist eliminator is capable of providing the appropriate amount of airflow to each machine, the wrong ductwork layout can render your central air cleaner totally ineffective for every machine connected.

One important factor to consider is even airflow distribution.  Extensive air balancing calculations are required to create a duct network that delivers the correct air velocity to each machine.  Some people will use dampers on the vents to allow adjustments to the air pressure for each machine, but the adjustments must be carefully thought out.

Though the diagram below only shows one machine center, it illustrates the point.  One major benefit for ducting to a central oil smoke mist eliminator is added flexibility of capturing more contamination sources using once mist eliminator.  That means, you only pay for the initial cost, maintenance and operation of one big mist eliminator, instead of several.  For a large facility, this can be a substantial money saver.
